Introducing your Safer Neighbourhood Team
Your Safer Neighbourhoods Team (SNT) is a group of Met police officers dedicated to serving your local community. The team is made up of officers based in your area (or ‘ward’), supported by additional officers from the wider area. Each team consists of at least one Police Constable (PC) and one Police Community Support Officer (PCSO)
We work closely with local authorities, community leaders and residents (including attending Ward Panels) to decide our policing priorities for the area. This helps us to find useful, long-term solutions to local problems, while maintaining our wider focus on reducing crime across London.

Police Profiles
Trevor Lawry – SE BCU – Borough Commander
I am Trevor Lawry, South East Borough Commander for Lewisham, Greenwich and Bexley. I am immensely proud to be the person in charge of policing these great Boroughs. I volunteered for this role as I want to work with communities in South East London to make them a great places to live and work. As Police Officers we should never underestimate the amount of power that the office of Constable holds. I still get concerned when I am driving and see a Police car behind me with flashing lights, even though I know I have not done anything wrong and have been in the Police for over 25 years. We therefore have a duty to use our powers wisely.
We police with the consent and trust of the communities we serve. I have therefore set 4 principles for the Officers who work in South East London.
- Understand that as a Police Officer your primary purpose is to prevent and detect crime. You need to do this every day you come on duty and should be able to say how you have done this when you finish your duty.
- Police with the community and not to the community. Be aware of your powers and use the least obtrusive one with the minimal amount of force required.
- Intelligence is the lifeblood of any Police service and it is your responsibility to provide intelligence on what you see and hear. It is of no use that you hold the vital key in preventing or solving a crime if you do not share it.
- Understand that perception is as important as reality. Being polite and courteous is not an expectation it is a right. Always ask yourself “how would I feel, if my family saw this on the TV?”
I look forward to working with communities and continuing to make Lewisham a great borough.
Charlene Pavitt – SE BCU – Superintendent
I am writing to introduce myself as the new Borough Superintendent for Lewisham, replacing Andrew Ricketts. This is a new role designed to strengthen Neighbourhood Policing as part of the Commissioner’s Turn Around Plan, with each London Borough now having a dedicated Superintendent, and features in Baroness Casey’s recent report on the Metropolitan Police Service. My focus will be on Neighbourhood Policing and I will be working to ensure Lewisham is a safe and secure place to live, work and visit. However, I am very much aware that I cannot do this alone! I will be coordinating closely with colleagues who have responsibility for emergency response, CID and public protection across the command, but perhaps the most important parts of this role will be listening to the needs of the community and strengthening our partnership in response. I am genuinely looking forward to meeting with you soon and discussing how I can help deliver this.
I have had a varied career to bring me to this role. I joined the Metropolitan Police Service in 2004 where I served in my probationary period on response team at Brixton and then moving on to the robbery taskforce and Safer Neighbourhood Team, before being promoted and moving to Lewisham. I have spent 9 of my 19 years’ service at Lewisham Borough Operational Command Unit (BOCU)previously in the ranks of Sergeant and Inspector across a number of different strands including Emergency Response Team (ERT), Custody, Neighbourhood Policing Team, Staff Officer and Crime Prevention Unit/HQ. I am really excited to be returning to Lewisham. I absolutely loved my time on the BOCU. I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to return to frontline policing at this difficult time for us all. All, bar my last, albeit brief, postings have been spent on Front Line Policing as I believe it’s the bedrock of policing.
Since my time away from Lewisham, I have spent time in the role of HQ Inspect at AW (Central West Command Unit) and then moving on promotion to ERT Chief Inspector at CE (Central East Command Unit) where I spent 2.5 years, before moving to HR as a career development lead last year.
I am the Police Officer Chair of the Network of Women (NoW) for the Met, this is a role that I was honoured to be voted in to by the NoW executive board. I am passionate about supporting and developing others and ensuring fairness in all areas of our work. I am also a bronze public order Commander and have experience in dealing in a number of public order events, including Ceremonials, Notting Hill Carnival, policing protest, public disorder and football. I was part of the command team for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and State Funeral and the King’s Coronation.
I am a single Mum and love spending time with my son although it won’t be long until he is too cool to be seen with his Mum. I am the Coach for the local Under 12s football team, which keeps me very busy. I love spending time with my family and friends. My main hobbies are football coaching, running and cricket, I have recently joined the first female cricket team locally so it is fair to say that I like to keep active. That said, a good TV series and a huge bar of chocolate is also something I enjoy – it is all about balance (or at least that is what I tell myself).
